Youth Progression Coordinator
21 hours per week (0.6 FTE)
£1547 / month (£30,940 FTE pro rata)
Music Local / Launchpad / Music:Leeds are looking for a Youth Progression Coordinator. This new role within the team will be responsible for creating and developing relationships with external partners including schools, music education hubs, local government and other groups that support young people in their music journeys. We see this role as key to our mission to promote and stimulate potential music careers and opportunities available to young people, especially in places within Yorkshire without Higher Education provision.
Working closely with the Director, the role will arrange, develop, deliver and report on activity with youth-focussed music groups on employability, career pathways and music industry processes to groups of young people across the region.
Our team are based in a Leeds city centre office, but we work flexibly with a combination of home and office working. The role will involve working on site with partner organisations across the Yorkshire region, initially prioritising work in Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield and Rotherham. We have secured funding for this role for two years with a possibility of extension as we plan to develop further grant applications to continue this role beyond that.
We believe this role to be a trailblazer, with few equivalent positions in existence. We welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds with a variety of relevant skills. We are seeking candidates with experience covering a range of the following:
Working with young people in education settings and creating engaging activities and content.
Working with education partners, either in formal education settings, community groups or similar.
Knowledge of music education policy, for example the National Plan for Music Education and Music Hub Investment Program.
Working in the music industry and music industry practices.
Managing policies and procedures involving working with young people, particularly in regard to safeguarding

Who are Music Local / Music:Leeds
Established as Music:Leeds in 2019, we are a not-for-profit organisation that acts as a central point to coordinate activity that supports, promotes, develops and grows music in the city and wider region. Through 2020, we developed Music Local, offering support for the place based development of sustainable local music communities throughout Yorkshire. We currently partner with Bradford Council to support Bradford Music Network alongside Rotherham Music and North Yorkshire Council for upcoming events.
Launchpad is our talent development program that supports emerging artists, musicians, producers, bands, composers and music professionals throughout the Yorkshire region, through a combination of mentoring, live opportunities and funding for projects and recordings and events such as panels, workshops and conferences. We also partner with PRS Foundation to deliver PPL Momentum Accelerator, available to artists in the region.
Launchpad is supported by Youth Music, with public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England, as well as Bradford Council, arts@leeds, Leeds City Council and PRS Foundation's Talent Development Partnership supported by PPL.

Full Job Description
Job Title: Youth Progression Coordinator
Reporting To: Directors
Working Pattern: 21 hours per week – working pattern to be agreed, to include occasional evening and weekend support to events.
Main Purpose of the Role
Working closely with the Director, our Youth Progression Coordinator will be responsible for creating and developing relationships with external partners including schools, music education hubs, local government and other out of school music and community groups. This will involve engaging in regional networks such as education partnerships, learning forum and building on the organisations existing presence in the region.
You will be responsible for, with oversight of, arranging, developing, delivering and reporting on activity with youth-focussed music groups on employability, career pathways and music industry processes to groups of young people across the region.
Duties and Responsibilities
● Develop and embed relationships with youth education partners including schools, music education hubs, local government and other out of school music and community groups.
● Maintain a presence within local networks such as music education hub networks, local cultural education partnerships (LCEPs), skills and employability forum and more as appropriate.
● Arrange, develop and deliver in-person activity to young people throughout Yorkshire on employability, career pathways and music industry processes.
● Coordinate with music industry professionals to co-deliver activity with young people where appropriate.
● Develop appropriate safeguarding and other processes for our delivery and partners, and music industry speakers to work with young people.
● With support of the wider team, maintain awareness of opportunities, workshops and programs relevant to young people and music educators and create processes to share these appropriately.
● Work with the Director and Project Operations Manager to collate information as directed, which may include drafting and presenting reports, collecting Key Performance Indicators for funders, partners and internal reviews.
● Work with the Director to identify and secure additional funding to support the aims of Music Local / Launchpad.
● Work with the wider team to develop content and material to promote our activity to young people, including collecting information from partners and guest speakers.
● Contribute to the delivery of Music Local / Launchpad events as required,
● Maintain a database of internal and external contacts;
● Follow Music Local systems and processes and establish new systems in collaboration with the whole team, where required;
● Attend team meetings, keeping the Directors abreast of developments and making suggestions where opportunities exist for the delivery of our programmes;
● Undertake other projects as determined which may include feeding into funding applications and reports to stakeholders;
● Work in keeping with our ethos and the values of Music Local / Music:Leeds;
● Any other duties in keeping with the nature and the level of the role.
Recruitment Criteria
We seek candidates with the following skills and experience and will assess applications against the criteria listed below:
● Excellent written and communication skills;
● Experience of working with young people in education settings and creating engaging activities and content.
● Experience of working with education partners, either in formal education settings, community groups or similar.
● Experience of working in the music industry and music industry practices.
● Experience of managing policies and procedures involving working with young people, particularly in regard to safeguarding
● Evidence of a proactive and flexible attitude and a solutions focussed approach to challenges;
● The ability to work as part of a team as well as with wider stakeholder in an agile working environment;
● Excellent IT skills;
● Knowledge of the local music, cultural and education sector, with good links would be advantageous;
● Knowledge of music education policy, for example the National Plan for Music Education and Music Hub Investment Program. Previous involvement in delivering to the these would be advantageous.
● Knowledge of the national music industry would be advantageous.
● Experience of working on public funded projects would be advantageous;
As a small organisation, our staff work flexibly using their own computers / devices which we anticipate continuing for any new members of team – however we are able to provide access to services, platforms and programs essential for carrying out our work (eg. cloud based storage and specialist programs / platforms)
